Nelson police recover stolen pickup truck

2024-7394: Police located the pickup truck in Salmo that was stolen several days previously from a residential neighbourhood.

On Monday, December 9, just after noon, police were called by a contractor, who reported that his truck had been stolen within the last half hour. He had parked in front of a house and gone inside for a short amount of time. When he went out again, his truck was gone.

Four days later, the vehicle was found abandoned in Salmo. It was taken to a local tow yard and police notified the owner.

Vehicle thefts are unfortunately not uncommon in Canada. Always lock car doors and never leave keys inside of a vehicle. If you are the victim of a vehicle theft, contact police immediately.

Nelson police arrest impaired driver following collision.

2024-7476: Officers arrested a woman for impaired driving after they found her still inside of her car, following a crash.

In the early hours of Saturday, December 14, police were called to the scene by a neighbour who had heard the collision. When they arrived, they found a vehicle flipped upside-down, with the driver still inside and, remarkably, unhurt. After being helped out of the vehicle, the woman admitted that she had been at a Christmas party where she had been drinking. She could not remember how she got there or what lead up to the crash.

The woman was checked by paramedics and was found to have no significant injuries. She was asked to provide a breath sample, which she failed. Subsequently, she was arrested for driving under the influence, and was served with a thirty-day vehicle impoundment and a ninety-day driving prohibition.

“With lots of holiday parties this time of year, we want everyone to get home safely,” says Special Constable Edwards, “There is always a better option that driving drunk.”

The Nelson Police Department will be doing extra road checks this month to remove impaired drivers from the roads. We ask that people make plans to get home before they go out.
