Vehicle Break and Enters

2024-6822/2024-6833/2024-6847: This week there have been several Break & Enters into vehicles in Nelson. In two of the three instances, entry was gained by smashing a window. Valuables inside were taken and damage was done to the interior of the vehicles in all three cases. At this time, it is unclear whether the incidents are related, but police are not ruling it out.

While these types of crimes are not always preventable, there are precautions one can take to deter break-ins. When possible, park in a secure and well-lit area. Remove all valuables from the vehicle and ensure that nothing can be seen through the windows. Keep the vehicle locked at all times. If you are the victim of a break-in, contact police and document everything that was taken.

Impaired Drivers

2024-6917/2024-6942: Two impaired drivers were removed from the road this week by Nelson Police Officers. In both cases, an officer on routine patrol observed vehicles driving erratically, prompting them to make a traffic stop. The drivers both failed a breathalyzer test and were each served with a 90-day driving prohibition and 30-day vehicle impoundment, as per legislation.

Impaired driving kills hundreds and injures thousands of Canadians every year. If that is not a sufficient deterrent, consider that the penalty for getting caught driving under the influence is very costly and inconvenient. The Nelson Police Department takes this matter seriously: please arrange a safe ride home if you are consuming alcohol.

Egg Bandits Still at Large

2024-6839/2024-6842/2024-6891/2024-6943: This week, we have seen several more incidents of a group of youths egging houses and vehicles. Police are pursuing several leads to determine the identities of the group, including CCTV footage that was obtained of them.

Remembrance Day

2024-6844: The Nelson Police participated in the annual Remembrance Day Ceremony on Monday November 11th. The event went off with no issues. We appreciate everyone who came out in the rain to watch or participate in the ceremony.

The NPD honours those, past and present, who have sacrificed themselves for our country. Lest We Forget.
