Seized or Recovered Property Return

The Property Office receives and stores all public property that comes into the possession of the Nelson Police Department. This consists of evidence exhibits, safekeeping articles or simply found items. When all investigative and judicial processes are concluded, the property is returned to the lawful owner or disposed of as per departmental procedure.

Prior arrangements must be made with the Property Office for the return of all property.

How to arrange pickup of property

Please contact the property custodian by email or telephone, providing your full name, contact information, file number (if available) and a brief description of the property you are looking for.

Nelson Police has some of my property, can I attend the office to pick it up?

No.  Contact the Nelson Police Department first.  The Property Custodian is the only person that has access to the property/evidence/exhibit lockers and needs to remove your property from the locker and get it ready for you to pick up.  Contact the Property Custodian either by email or phone.  Be sure to include your name, contact information and a brief description of your property.  You will be contacted when it’s ready for pickup.  Email: cdebienne@nelsonpolice.ca Phone message: 250-505-5652.


Nelson Police Department contacted me to advise some of my property is at the police department in a ‘temporary locker’. Can I attend the Nelson Police Department to pick it up?

Possibly.  Items such as wallets, cell phones, purses etc. that are turned in to Nelson Police Department and are not part of an investigation are often placed in a temporary locker and available for pick up without making arrangements through the Property Custodian.  Contact Nelson Police Dispatch first to see if your property is available for pickup 250-354-3919.

 

Does the Nelson Police Department have a lost and found for keys?

Yes.  Attend the Nelson Police Department during business hours (9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday except for statutory holidays) to look in our found key basket.
