WORKING TOGETHER FOR EFFECTIVE WINTER OPERATIONS
December 15, 2017
We all have to work together to keep Nelson safe during the winter season and this requires cooperation from residents and businesses. Here are a couple of simple rules related to parking and maintaining pedestrian routes like sidewalks and steps:
- The EVEN and ODD rule: November 1st to April 30th vehicles are required to park on the even numbered side of the street on even numbered calendar dates and park on the odd numbered side of the street on odd numbered calendar dates, so as not to obstruct the City’s snow clearing operations. Vehicles in contravention of these restrictions are subject to a fine and/or will be towed and impounded at the owner’s expense.
- Clear the walkways abutting your property. Residents and business owners/occupiers are responsible for clearing snow and ice from the areas abutting their property, including sidewalks, stairs and driveways. All clearing must be completed before 11:00 am.
We thank you in advance for your cooperation. The full explanation of winter parking rules can be found in the City of Nelson Traffic Bylaw.
