Tagging, graffiti and postering

What's Happening Posted on July 31, 2025

Tags are a drag.
Tags, graffiti, posters, and tape residue on City-owned structures (including light standards, refuse bins, and hydro boxes) add up to a pretty big clean-up job for Public Works, which costs tax-payers—crews are spending up to 10 hours a week managing the mess.
Tagging, graffiti, and spray-painting fall under Mischief—Section 430 of the Criminal Code—and City Bylaw 2375 2(G) which carries a $500 fine. Posters and rogue staples on power poles can also create hazardous conditions for powerline technicians.
Hang posters on the public notice boards located in the 500 block of Baker Street and at the Nelson Public Library, and report new tags and vandalism in the community to the Nelson Police Department. Together, we can keep our streets (and structures) looking beautiful.
