The City of Nelson is transitioning from the current orange garbage tags to new rectangular tags.
*THE ORANGE TAGS ARE STILL VALID – SO PLEASE CONTINUE USING THEM AS WE TRANSITION TO THE NEW TAGS.*
Why is the City moving to new garbage tags?
Our inventory of orange tags is out, which provided an opportunity to invest in brighter, larger, more visible tags with a stronger adhesive. This is important for our collection crews as they work quickly, and these tags are easier to see.
The new, more adhesive tags are great for residents as they will not accidentally come off your bag prior to pickup.
Why do the new tags look different?
The new tags, which were designed and printed locally, provided an opportunity to share important information on City programs. The QR code on the tags takes residents to our Programs web page, which we are continually updating.
Can residents still use the orange tags?
Yes, the orange tags remain valid. In fact, vendors will continue selling the orange tags until their inventory is used up.
Why are there four colours of tags?
Each tag has a seasonal message related to our City programs and initiatives. However, you can use any of the tags throughout the year.
Do the tags cost the same as the old ones to purchase?
Yes, the cost of the tags remains the same. The City will notify residents if there is a change in the garbage tag price.
