Each fall, City crews remove leaves that have fallen from City boulevard trees. City crews will be working neighbourhood by neighbourhood to collect leaves from the streets.
Residents can assist by raking the leaves from the City boulevards and sidewalks to the edge of the street, loosely against the curb. PLEASE DO NOT PUT YOUR LEAVES IN A LARGE PILE. If heavy rains are in the forecast, we ask residents to wait for fairer weather to rake the leaves so as to avoid clogging catch basins and potentially causing flooding.
For efficiency, each neighbourhood is cleared ONLY once, so it is important the majority of the leaves are raked to the street. The weather and the type of tree effect when the leaves fall and when we will be in your neighbourhood. Watch for hand-delivered notices, sandwich boards, temporary “no-parking” signs or barricades temporarily closing a street.
As a general rule, we ask residents with off-street parking to park their vehicles off the road. If it is necessary to park on the street, residents are asked to follow the “odd” and “even” parking rule; meaning that on “odd” numbered days, park on the odd side of the street and on “even” numbered days, park on the even side of the road. Having the streets clear of vehicles will help crews to have better access to remove the leaves.
Thank you for your help in our fall leaf clean up.
