NOTICE TO PUBLIC: WATERMAIN FLUSHING PROGRAM
May 2nd, 2018
The City of Nelson Utilities Department is set to start the Watermain Flushing Program. The flushing will be done Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, commencing May 7, 2018 and continuing to the end of June.
Watermain flushing is carried out as part of an annually-scheduled preventative maintenance program to remove sediment that can deposit in pipes, and helps maintain water quality in the water distribution system. The benefits include maintaining, and potentially improving, water quality in the mains. This method will also reduce bacteriological growth, restore disinfection residuals, improve colour, control corrosion and can help restore flow and pressure in the distribution system.
When the watermain in your area is flushed, you may experience a temporary reduction in water pressure and/or discoloration of the water. These conditions are normal during flushing activities and are only temporary. If you notice discoloration or air in your water, turn on your cold water tap or outside hose bib and let it run until the water is clear. This may take up to 15 minutes; if it takes longer, you may need to notify our Public Works & Utilities Department.
NOTE: Residents on a dialysis machine should call us at the number listed below and the crews will work to accommodate the resident. Some larger facilities will be contacted prior to work being done in their area.
We apologize for any inconvenience this work may cause.
