[ARCHIVED] City of Nelson COVID-19 Update #11 Tuesday, March 21, 2020

March 31, 2020 – 5:15pm

COVID-19 PANDEMIC UPDATE #10 – CITY OF NELSON

NOTE: Premier John Horgan will hold a press briefing on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at 6:15pm PDT.

Nelson, BC –  In today’s provincial update, Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry reported that there are now 1013 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the province with 107 in the Interior Health Region. Yesterday, there were 94 cases in the interior with 13 new cases being reported today.

Dr. Henry has indicated the province is investigating the first large community outbreak involving temporary foreign workers at a plant nursery in West Kelowna. She did not provide the numbers of affected individuals in this outbreak, at this time.

Dr. Henry also stated that BC is in the “critical part” of the first wave of COVID-19 infections, which is expected to last several more weeks. Health Minister Dix said that is unlikely that we will see a reprieve before summer.

The City of Nelson would like to thank everyone for doing their important part in preventing the spread of COVID-19 in our community. We need to remain vigilant in following provincial guidance of staying home, washing your hands frequently, and social distancing at least 2 metres. It is important that any unnecessary travel is eliminated and that only one person from your home does the grocery shopping.

The BC Government has provided the following information today:

COVID-19 Cases:

  • Total cases in BC to date: 1,013
  • 476 in Vancouver Coastal Health
  • 348 in Fraser Health
  • 67 in Island Health
  • 107 in Interior Health
  • 15 in Northern Health
  • Total recovered cases in BC: 507
  • Total fatalities in BC to date: 24
  • Total cases in Canada to date: 8,612
