AMI Project

The Nelson Hydro Automated Meter Infrastructure or AMI Project has many parts and stages. In fact, there are three separate and distinct projects that occur with specific entry and exit criteria.
AMI Program Timeline

Pre-Feasibility Project

Dates: June to October 2022

Status: Complete

Purpose: Determine if the project worth pursuing by assessing options, risks, benefits, and costs through a Business Case.

Deliverable: Business Case and Technology Assessment

Outcome: City Council supported the project and asked what could be done to reduce costs and improve the benefits. The project was estimated project as $9M and then was put on hold to focus on other priorities.

Feasibility Project

Dates: November 2024 to March 2026

Status: In Progress

Purpose: to determine the detailed solution, plan and costs for regulatory and council approval.

Deliverable: Reports for British Columbia Utilities Commission and City Council

Implementation Project

Dates: TBD

Status: Not Started

Purpose: to set-up and test the technical solution to ensure the system receives accurate data for billing purposes.
