[ARCHIVED] Update: Watermain Extension for Selous Creek

October 23 2020

Installation of the watermain along the Great Northern Trail (GNT) and along the Hoover Street Right-of-Way is now complete. The final tie-in and pipe reconfiguring will take place next week (October 26-30) at the top of Stanley Street.  Hydroseeding of the exposed slopes, originally scheduled for the week of Oct 19-23 has also been pushed out until next week due to weather. Likewise for the road and trail repairs. Re-surfacing of the GNT north of the Mountain Station parking lot is scheduled over the next few days; however, only minor trail disruptions are anticipated, with no long term closures.

The focus over the next month will shift to the Hil-Tech Contracting crew, working within the fence line at Mountain Station reservoir. The construction crew is busy forming and placing concrete for the valve control building. Next week, additional concrete works are planned. Gravel and concrete ready-mix trucks will be coming and going from the site at the top of Mountain Road, and the contractor asks trail users to refrain from parking near the reservoir so that the trucks can maneuver in and out of the worksite.

The contractors do not foresee the need for any detours or closures of trails nor roads over the next week, but caution that heavy trucks will be backing off Mountain Road into the reservoir site. Please be mindful of the construction zones, traffic control personnel and all construction signage.
