Recovery Operations Centre Update: Covid-19

October 2, 2020

Confirmed cases have decreased in BC this week. Confirmed cases in the Interior region and more specifically the Kootenay Boundary Health Service Delivery Area remain low. Even though our numbers remain low, it’s important to not become complacent.

Remember the basics. Keep your group small, wash your hands, carry a mask just in case you need it and if you feel sick stay home.

Where are we at?

According to the BC Centre for Disease Control (CDC), new case counts are generally increasing in the Interior in the past few weeks. That being said, we are not experiencing a peak similar to July. A total of 15 new cases were reported in the Interior region over the course of the last week compared to 31 the previous week.

  • The number of active cases (1,261) has decreased compared to last week (1,371)
  • The number of new hospital admissions has stabilized in recent weeks, with the number of cases currently in hospital increasing slightly over the past 4 days.
  • The number of cases currently in critical care is also stabilizing and is still much lower than counts observed in phase 1

Geographic Distribution:

There is 1 new reported case in the Kootenay Boundary Health Service Delivery Area in the past 14 days.

News:

The province has released its economic recovery plan – Stronger BC. The plan outlines the latest steps the Government of British Columbia is taking to help people, businesses and communities recover and come out of COVID-19 stronger and better prepared. The Plan is essentially framed under 4 themes:

  • Making health care better
  • Creating jobs and opportunities
  • Helping businesses grow and rehire
  • Supporting strong communities
