The installation of the waterline along the Great Northern Trail (GNT) is nearing completion. Kays Road Contracting Ltd. will continue to work sporadically along the GNT over the next couple of weeks to tidy up along the trail and complete isolated works associated with the line. The work to extend the waterline along the Hoover Street ROW will begin soon, starting with works at the top of the line adjacent to the existing Mountain Station reservoir.
This past week, the last of the 400mm diameter water pipe was laid under the GNT, and the trail should open to the public for the upcoming week. Over the next week or two, the construction crew will migrate along the rail grade completing minor works and taking care of deficiencies. Although the trail will be open, it will not be resurfaced until all works are complete, and will be subject to minor detours over the coming weeks in order to complete the remaining works. The South Sheppard Road bypass will remain open as an optional route.
Within the next two weeks, once the trail can be safely opened up to the public, the construction crew will move to the Mountain Station reservoir site for approximately a month. Although the majority of the construction signage will be removed from the Great Northern Trail, and the Mountain Station Parking Lot, the contractors will have a presence along the trail, parking lot, and Mountain Road, over the next few months, setting up signage and traffic control as required. Please be mindful of the construction zones, traffic control personnel and all construction signage.
This photo was taken from the Mountain Station Parking lot looking south. Trail users can either veer left and go up the paved road to South Sheppard Road to use the bypass or continue to use the Great Northern Trail. Other than periodic short term closures, this portion of the trail is useable.

This photo is looking north from the Mountain Station Parking lot along the trail toward the Hoover Street Right-Of-Way. The trail is not resurfaced, and will be subject to periodic closures, but is currently open to the public and useable as is.
