Hall Street Update Nov 25 to Dec 1, 2018

The Hall Street project, south of the CPR crossing, is now substantially complete. The highway intersection is repaved, lines marked and signals operational. Traffic control is no longer required, and the construction barricades and signage will all be removed over the next few days. Marwest Industries and the City of Nelson are particularly happy that the job was completed safely, where no incidents were reported and no time lost. Marwest and the City would like to thank everyone for their patience, especially those businesses directly affected by the construction.

McNally Excavating, working in the parking lot area at the foot of Hall Street, is also wrapping things up, but is likely two weeks away from demobilizing. A delay in the arrival of some critical electrical and hardscape items for the park space has pushed back completion of the landscaping into the week of December 3. The majority of the remaining work is landscaping of the park space near the existing gazebo. Disruption to the parking lot and accesses will be minimal, although at times, areas of the lot will be delineated off  as works to erect light poles, for example, will require partial closures.

It is likely, that over the next few months, deficiencies will be rectified, and some changes made,  but any inconvenience is expected to be minimal. Of note, now that Hall Street is fully open, there is a traffic pattern change at Lakeside Drive and Hall Street. The Hall/Lakeside intersection is now a three-way stop. The traffic going northbound, toward Kootenay Lake, on Hall Street, has to stop at Lakeside Drive. The access to the parking lot is also changed, where a refuge area has been delineated on Lakeside Drive allowing left turn movements into the parking lot. Westbound motorists on Lakeside Drive are reminded to keep the yellow center line to their left as they approach Hall Street, so as not to enter the refuge area.
