Volunteer
We love volunteers! Gain new skills, bulk your resume and meet new people by volunteering your time with our Weekday Warrior program or day camps. Before starting at the NDYC, volunteers need to fill out a criminal reference check.
Here's how to get a free criminal reference check while volunteering for the NDYC:
1. Download and fill out our volunteer package.
2a. If you live in town:
-Visit the Nelson Police Department website and print off a Police Reference Check.
-Indicate you need a "Vulnerable Persons Sector Check" too.
-Print our volunteer package or an email confirming you're volunteering with NDYC
-Bring both printed forms and ID to the police station (606 Stanley St. Nelson, BC)
-Wait 1-2 weeks
2b. If you live out of town:
-Visit the RCMP office at 1010 Second St, Nelson, BC
-Bring your printed volunteer package or an email confirming you're volunteering with NDYC
-Bring 2 pieces of ID with you
-Fill out their 3 page criminal reference check form at their front desk.
-Indicate you need a "Vulnerable Persons Sector Check" too.
-Wait 1-2 weeks
3. Return your volunteer package and completed criminal reference check before beginning your first shift. Either email them to us at youthcentre@nelson.ca or drop if off in person at 608 Lake St, Nelson BC.
