This new site utilizes the latest in municipal web site technologies and should give us the tools to provide the information you are seeking in an efficient and intuitive interface. It is however a work in progress so please be patience as it evolves and grows based upon your feedback and suggestions.
Locating Your Information
There are a number of ways of finding what you are looking for.
When you scroll your mouse over the main menu headings along the top (I Want To..., Residents, Doing Business, etc.) you will see a drop down menu that contains topics relevant to the heading you are under. Items that have a circled arrow contain additional items beneath them as well. You can click on any of these items including the headings that contain additional items beneath them.
When you have found a page of interest you will note that on the left hand side is a vertical browse listing of all the pages under your main menu heading plus any associated pages for the topic you chose. This should allow you easy access to similar information and assist with navigation. We encourage you to refer to this browse menu so that you can see associated pages that may not be apparent from the other menus. If the menu on the left is long you may have to scroll down to see the section you are in plus any associated pages.
You will also find above your selected content a text "breadcrumb" indicating what section you are in and providing a simple way to navigate to the parent pages. (ex. Home / Residents / Community Facilities / Library). You can click on any of these menu headings to immediately bring up that section.
Along the very top of the page you will find Home, News, Contact Us, Sitemap, and Search options. Home will take you back to the home page. News will allow you to access either "What's New" information or "Public Notices". "Contact Us" will bring you to a page where you can choose between a general "Feedback Form" or a detailed "Staff Directory". The "Sitemap" will give you a detailed layout of the entire menu system and the "Search" tool will search the entire site including readable PDF documents.
On the right of your selected page you may find a "Related Links" and "Contact Information" box. We will continue to populate these with links and contact information that are relevant to the page you are on. A link to the "Staff Directory" will take you to a detailed staff listing for the section you are on with phone numbers and an email form.
Viewing Options
On each page you will find a "Text Size" feature which will allow you to toggle the plus and minus icons to either increase or decrease the size of the text. There is also a "Display" option at the very top of the page to assist with mobile devices or those requiring "High Contrast".
RSS Feeds
Throughout the site you will find the option to subscribe to RSS feeds. These will allow you to keep informed of any additions or changes to the section you are subscribed to without having to keep checking the website.
Footer Menu
At the very bottom of every page you will find contact information for City Hall plus a "Disclaimer" and "Privacy Policy" that you should familiarize yourself with.
Feedback
We hope that you find the new website a helpful tool in accessing City of Nelson services and information. We will strive to make more services available online and will inform you of when they become available. Please contact the Web Administrator with your feedback and suggestions to help the site grow and evolve.
