The City of Nelson has implemented our Emergency Response Plan for Drinking Water and has issued notifications to the general public through local radio, print and social media and via direct communication (phone, fax or in-person) to Hospitals, Childcare Facilities, Seniors Homes, Home Support and Health Units, Physicians and Dentists, Police and Fire, Restaurants, Groceries, Plumbers and a list of residents who have special medical needs. Following the issuance of a Boil Water Notice, The Interior Health Authority requires the City of Nelson to submit two (2) compliant water quality samples, taken 24 hours apart and from the same location in our water distribution system.  The City of Nelson has received the first of these sample analyses, taken yesterday and analyzed by the laboratory overnight: this sample is clean and fully compliant.   We are currently flushing the system and sampling for a second time.  Results from the lab should be available tomorrow afternoon, and if compliant, the Boil Water Notice can be lifted with the final approval from the Interior Health Authority.  The earliest that we can lift the Boil Water Notice is the afternoon of Saturday May 6, 2017.

If you own or operate Food Preparation Premises, Interior Health provides a guidance document that provides operational guidance during a Boil Water Notice.
