Unpaid Parking

Motorists have a two hour time limit to park in those spots located outside of downtown in the residential area.

Parkade

Nelson has one parkade with 192 rentable parking spots, located in the 400 block of Vernon Street. Call 250-354-8834 for more information.

Daily Rates:

$ 1.00 per hour (minimum)

$ 4.00 per day (to 6:00 PM)

$ 4.00 per overnight (to 6:00 AM)

24 Hour Rate:

Minimum Stay - 3 Days

$ 5.00 per 24 hours

Monthly Rates:

2nd to 4th Floors $ 70.00 per month

5th Floor $ 60.00 per month

Roof Top $ 45.00 per month

Discounts are available for 6 month rentals.

Parking Meters

Nelson has approximately 750 parking meters that allow for

  • 15 Minute Parking
  • 30 Minute Parking 
  • 1 Hour Parking
  • 2 Hour Parking
  • 4 Hour Parking

Motorists are required to pay to park in metered spaces from Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Rates
  • 25 cents for every 15 minutes

Meters accept only quarters, $1 coins, and $2 coins.

Payment Options

By Mail

Do not send cash in the mail. Postmarks will not be accepted as proof of payment prior to the penalty increase deadline. Please write the ticket number on your cheque and make it payable to City of Nelson. Your cancelled cheque will serve as a receipt.

In Person

City Hall is open Monday thru Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m (except Statutory Holidays).

After Hours Drop Box

Evenings, weekends and holiday payments may be deposited in a locked box located to the right of the main door of City Hall at 310 Ward St.

Internet Payment

You may pay parking tickets with our online payment website using MasterCard or Visa.

Ticket Search

To search for a parking ticket use our online payment website and choose the search option (ticket number or license plate number), enter the appropriate number and press Search. If searching by plate number, a drop down list will appear and you can select the ticket or tickets one at a time.

Appeals

Appeals must be received in writing on a Bylaw Notice Dispute Form [PDF - 42 KB] within 14 calendar days of ticket issuance. If no appeal has been received after 14 calendar days, the ticket will be treated as not disputed and no reduction of fine amount will occur. For more information contact City Hall at 250-352-5511.

Collections

Fines that remain unpaid after 14 calendar days of ticket issuance may result in a summons issued to appear in court, or may be turned over to a third party for collection.
