Emergency Messages
During the spring of 2011, Nelson Fire and Rescue Services will be returning to homes on the edges of town to continue our annual Community Wildfire Outreach Program.
This program involves visiting properties within the city limits which are in the "interface zone". Such homes are those with forested areas close by, perhaps in their own back yards, which would be most likely endangered by an approaching forest fire. Department staff will demonstrate how to evaluate a property, to determine it's vulnerability in the case of a fire. Each and every property owner/dweller who requests a visit and evaluation will receive information specific to their situation and will receive materials to help them conduct such evaluations themselves.
The 2011 Community Wildfire Outreach Program will be commencing in June and is offered free of charge to city of Nelson residents. Look for our trailer and trucks in the following areas:
June 6 Gyro: Trevor/Regent Street
June 7 Upper Uphill: Creek Street
June 8 Gyro: South Cherry/Observatory
June 9 Gyro: View Street
June 13 Rosemont: McQuarrie/Hamilton
June 14 Rosemont: Tower Rd/Silver King Road
June 15 Rosemont: Wasson Street
