Library

The Nelson & District Municipal Library provides free library memberships to residents of the City of Nelson. Patrons have access to a growing collection of books and periodicals for adults, children and youth, as well as music CDs, DVDs, and large-print and audio books. Wireless Internet access is available on site.

Regular library programs include: weekly story times for toddlers and preschoolers; a reading buddies program with players from the Nelson Maple Leafs hockey team; and movie nights for young adults. Local and visiting authors are featured at book readings, and the popular Oysters, Authors and Ale fundraiser has become an annual event.

The library partners with the Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy (CBAL) to facilitate Parent Child Mother Goose groups and maintain The Learning Place, a new feature in the library's lower level.

The library has two important initiatives planned for 2010: the Library Expansion project will create more much-needed usable space on the library's two floors; and a regional library initiative is exploring the possibility of outreach library service in Regional Districts E, F and H.
