Saturday, November, 17 will mark the end of the Hall Street project paving. Selkirk Paving is set to prep and pave the final lift of asphalt along Front Street including the transition to the existing pavement along the highway. If the weather holds, line marking will commence soon after the paving is complete. Marwest Industries is working from the CP tracks to Lake Street with only a few items left to complete prior to demobilizing. Four boulevard trees will be planted with tree grates next week, as well, there will be the construction of a small retaining wall in front of the Chamber of Mines building, to assist in retaining their rose bushes. The ‘to-do’ list is whittled down to installation of surface features such as benches, followed by clean-up and moving their equipment out. By the end of next week, Marwest should be done their work.
McNally Excavating, working from the CP tracks to Kootenay Lake, has completed all of the required paving, and this Saturday thy plan to complete the remainder of the concrete works as well. The outstanding concrete works include large slabs in and around the tram shelter. The paved areas are ready for line marking and if the weather holds, the marking will proceed over the next few days. Other than minor disruption, the parking lot and accesses are open and available for use by the public. The landscaping is progressing well and continue until the weather makes it too difficult to continue. Detours in and around the parking lot and accesses will be limited to short duration as the major works draw to a close.
With completion of the line marking, the barricades and the signage will start to come down and the signals at Hall and Front will become fully operational. In the meantime, the speed readers either side of the work site will remain in place for a while to remind motorists that the speed limit in the construction zone is 30 km/h.
