Flood Watch Downgraded to High Streamflow Advisory
Emergency Management would like to share that with the recent cool weather, creek flows have started to come down, and the River Forecast Centre has downgraded the West Kootenay from a Flood Watch to a High Streamflow Advisory.
Water levels have now reached their peak levels from last week’s snowmelt and rainfall over the weekend. Rivers are expected to recede into the middle of the week, but additional rises are expected into
next weekend due to increases in higher-elevation snowmelt.
Being near riverbanks, creeks, and fast-flowing bodies of water is dangerous!

Stay clear of fast-flowing rivers and potentially unstable riverbanks

Avoid recreational activities such as fishing, swimming, boating or hiking near high-streamflow rivers or streams

Remember, high streamflow can easily trap strong swimmers, increasing the risk of drowning

Keep a close eye on children and pets!
