City Hall to close for National Day of Mourning to honour Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
The City of Nelson is joining other local governments and will recognize the federal holiday on Monday, September 19, 2022, to mark the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This holiday coincides with Her Late Majesty’s State Funeral in London, United Kingdom, and the end of the official period of mourning in Canada.
The Prime Minister of Canada announced the planned holiday on September 13 on behalf of the Government of Canada. City Hall and other departments, including the Library and Public Works, will be closed on Monday, September 19.
Transit services will operate on Monday, and other essential services, including Police, Fire, Hydro and Utilities, will continue to function. In addition, the Youth Centre is offering child care services for ages 6 – 12. Please get in touch with the Youth Centre directly at youthcentre@nelson.ca to make arrangements.
