Anderson Street Infrastructure Upgrade Update - April 17, 2020

Anderson Infrastructure Project

The City of Nelson and their prime contractor General Assembly Excavation Limited are currently working to install new water main on Anderson Street, near the intersection of Nelson Avenue. The milling of the pavement for the water main alignment is complete and the first block of main, extending from First to Second Street, has already been installed.

The primary objective of these water system upgrades is the elimination of dead-end water mains by creating loops in the water system network. This modern design practice maximizes water quality and availability and minimizes disruptions during emergencies, maintenance, or future expansion.

Next week, the excavating contractor intends to push eastward toward Hume School with one crew, while sending a second crew to start at the far western end of the construction zone, near the intersection with Front Street. The traffic control set-up will change periodically as the crews move along the water main alignment; however, two-way traffic is to be maintained. Traffic will be slowed through the construction zone, but detours or closures are not anticipated. Pedestrian, cycling, and vehicular traffic should pay attention to all signage, traffic control devices and personnel.
