Youth Centre to take over day-day operations of City Parkade

Media Release

November 28, 2018

Nelson and District Youth Centre to take over day-to-day operations of the City parkade; City of Nelson thanks Parkade Operator Jim Reimer for his 22 years of exceptional service.

Nelson, BC -  On January 1st, 2019, the City of Nelson parkade located at 420 Vernon Street will transfer operation from the current contracted Parkade Operator, Jim Reimer to the staff at the Nelson and District Youth Centre. The decision to move to an internal operator coincided with Mr. Reimer’s contract ending in December, and the overall capacity available at the Youth Centre to take on this new enterprise.

“The City has been incredibly pleased with how the parkade has been operated over the past 22 years.” Says Colin McClure, Chief Financial Officer. “Jim has been integral in the successful operation of the parkade, including increasing patron use. The City thanks him for his commitment to this facility over the years.”

The Youth Centre currently manages the City Campground and provides a number of youth in our community employment. This social enterprise employment model has been very successful and will be applied to the operation of the parkade as well. The Youth Centre will employ local youth at the parkade and provide the same level of service that currently exists.

“I want to thank the community for their ongoing support over the years. We have made many friends during our tenure, which we will always cherish.” Says Jim Reimer. “It really has been a pleasure to serve the community, and I wish continued success to Jordan Martin and her team as they take on the management of this great community resource.”

The City of Nelson would like the public to know that it is business as usual at the parkade, and that all current user contracts will be honoured to the end contract date. Day-to-day operations will remain the same going forward, with an emphasis on excellence in customer service and safety.
