CANDIDATE NOMINATION PACKCKAGES ARE NOW AVAILABLE

Candidate nomination packages for citizens wishing to put their name forward for the City of Nelson City Council or for School District No. 8, Electoral  Area 1, School Trustee are now available at City Hall - 2nd Floor, 310 Ward Street. 

Prospective candidates have between 9:00 am on September 4, 2018 and 4:00 pm on September 14, 2018, to submit their completed nomination packages to the Chief Elections Officer or Deputy Chief Elections Officer at City Hall. The nomination period runs from September 4 to 14 and the deadline to withdraw is September 21. The campaign period begins September 22 and general voting day is October 20.

Advance Voting Opportunities

Voting hours are 8:00am to 8:00pm for all dates and locations.

  • Wednesday October 10, 2018 - City Hall
  • Wednesday October 17, 2018 - City Hall

General Voting Day

Voting will take place Saturday October 20, 2018 form 8:00am - 8:00pm at the following locations:

  • Central School
  • North Shore Hall

Voting Assistance

All voting locations are made as accessible as possible to people with disabilities or impaired mobility. Individuals who find it difficult to enter a voting location may request a ballot be brought to them at the back entrance or curbside by an Election Official.

Individuals who are unable to mark their own ballot or who require a translator may ask an Election Official, friend or relative for help. Anyone assisting an elector with filing out a ballot will be required to sign a Declaration of Persons Assisting an Elector to Mark a Ballot Form.

REQUIREMENTS TO VOTE OR RUN IN ELECTION

To vote or run in the election, you must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older on general voting day
  • Be a Canadian citizen
  • Have lived in BC for at least 6 months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed
  • Not be disqualified by law from being nominated, elected or holding office
